What are the highlights of your current practice as a Psychologist?
The highlights of my current practice center around optimizing Internet-delivered Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (ICBT) for use in Saskatchewan through the Online Therapy Unit (www.onlinetherapyuser.ca) and for public safety personnel across Canada via PSPNET (www.pspnet.ca). In ICBT, clients access treatment materials as an online course, receiving support from therapists through asynchronous email or phone calls. When clients enroll in ICBT, they complete symptom measures and provide feedback on their experience at the end of treatment, which we use to refine and enhance the therapeutic content and therapist practices. This approach is not only effective but also highly accessible, allowing us to reach a broader population. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to offer a novel, effective and accessible service and be able to help clients I may otherwise never get the chance to assist.
What has changed in the practice of psychology over the years for you?
One significant change in my practice over the years is the integration of technology. Whether administering questionnaires or connecting with clients online, technological advancements have transformed how I deliver psychological services. These tools have made it possible to reach clients more effectively and efficiently, breaking down barriers to accessing mental health care.
What do you value in being a CRHSP Registrant?
I appreciate the work that CRHSP does with respect to continuing education. I find the articles in the Journal of Health Service Psychology topical and informative and appreciate also being able to access various webinars on the website without cost.
What would your advice be for new Psychologists beginning their careers?
My advice for new psychologists is to find like-minded peers and mentors. Building a supportive professional network can provide valuable guidance and encouragement. Additionally, commit to continuous learning—keep reading, attending workshops, and staying updated with the latest research and developments in psychology. This dedication to lifelong learning will enhance your practice and help you provide the best possible care to your clients.
What is one of the things on your bucket list that you are looking forward to?
From a professional perspective, I am eager to continue expanding the knowledge base around ICBT, aiming to establish it as a common resource for clients while ensuring its optimal delivery.
