What are the highlights of your current practice as a Psychologist?

I have many highlights in my career as a Psychologist. I am honored to be able to support many children and youth who have significant disabilities and their families navigate through the often-challenging journey. I am also grateful to be able to support many provisional and new psychologists in the profession. Furthermore, I thoroughly enjoy leading a thriving organization that supports children, youth and families with disabilities within the educational setting.

What has changed in the practice of psychology over the years for you?

In the time since becoming a Registered Psychologist in the province of Alberta in 2006 I have noted an increase in awareness and advocacy for psychological services to be accessible to all individuals. Although the profession still has a long way to go in terms of being accessible to all individuals there has been considerable growth and acknowledgement of the critical work psychologists do.

My advice for new psychologists just starting out is to take every opportunity and experience offered to them in terms of learning. The profession continually changes and grows, and it is important for us as psychologists to be flexible, adaptive and be lifelong learners. It is a privilege to be part of a profession that is exciting and challenging.
